The treatment is based on extremely small needles that penetrate the skin and cause tiny holes in the blood vessels located just below the surface of the skin. As a consequence of this action, growth factors are released from the blood platelets and the skin's healing mechanisms are activated, however, with no scar formation. The reason why no scar is produced is that the needles of the devices used for needling treatments are so thin that the skin remains practically intact during the treatment. Furthermore, studies have shown that the collagen produced during the healing phase is type I, which is normal skin collagen, and not type III collagen which is produced during scarring.
The treatment uses a device in the form of a roller that carries hundreds of tiny pins. The device is applied to the area of interest in various directions until a diffuse redness is produced, indicating that the treatment is complete.
